The fact that we have met here would suggest that you are looking for help, so if you can give me a moment or two, I’ll tell you a little bit about myself and how I may be able to help you.
As well as the fairly ‘normal’ teenage angst that young women felt about their bodies in the ’s, I was touched in a significant way by negative body image, and ultimately eating disorders, when I was a year old full-time ballet dancer at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Witnessing first-hand the havoc wreaked by eating disorders on my friends’ lives and dreams was frightening.
Twenty or so years and one undergraduate degree in applied social sciences later and I was able to draw on my experiences at WAAPA when I began working in the eating disorders field at first The Eating Disorders Foundation of NSW and then The Butterfly Foundation. In my six combined years, my most cherished role was on the coal-face; providing counselling support to sufferers or carers either on the phone, email or face to face. I found this deeply rewarding. In I left Butterfly to start my own private practice and consulting business."
