SUSAN POOLE
Founder and director of Red Light Therapy Kits, Susan completed a degree in Physical Education and a Masters Degree in Education through the University of Western Australia. Previous to her involvement with horses Susan operated her own physical rehabilitation business specializing in lower back injuries. Through the ’s she was head Exercise Physiologist at the University of Western Australia’s, Functional Rehabilitation Clinic.
Since the early ’s Sue moved more into the area of performance horses where she teaches, trains and competes in show jumping.
HOW THE EQUINE THERAPY WRAP WAS BORN!
We had recently purchased our wonderful show jumping horse “Javelin” with the long term goal of eventually working through to World Cup level. During a training session Javelin had a slip on landing, sustaining a lesion to the medial branch of the suspensory ligament on his left hind leg. It was through this career threatening injury that led us to the development of the Equine Therapy Wrap.
Previous to this event we had worked extensively with the Red Light Photonic Torch on the acupuncture meridian system. The results for horses, humans and dogs had been so rewarding that we created a small business in producing Red Light Therapy Kits for both the professional and home user.
When Javelin sustained his injury we were driven to explore the possibility of a convenient “wrap around” style pad which offered a time effective method to dealing with such chronic, slow healing injuries. After much research world wide we developed the Equine Therapy Wrap! We knew we were onto a good thing when Javelin’s scans showed significant improvement over and above what was expected in a short time frame. Not only had the lesion filled in at a significant rate but the overall health of the surrounding ligament showed substantial changes. I well remember the comment by the vet “whatever you are doing keep doing as this is a significant improvement”!
Javelin is now back to full work and progressing well towards our long term goal.
On the back of Javelin’s rehabilitation success we decided to offer the Therapy Wrap for commercial production. The results of red light therapy on horses, humans and dogs continue to inspire and amaze us to this day!
